How to draw a raffle fairly and prove it
Methods to draw your raffle with no doubt left: a live draw, an official public lottery or the app itself. How to prove to everyone that it was clean and avoid complaints after the result.
The selling can go perfectly and the draw can still ruin everything. A result that raises doubt kills your reputation, and the next raffle will not sell. Drawing well is less about luck and more about transparency: every participant needs to be able to verify that it was clean.
The golden rule
No matter the method, it has to meet three things:
- Truly random, meaning nobody picks the winner.
- Verifiable, meaning any participant can check the result.
- Public, announced in front of everyone at once.
A draw done alone in a room, with nobody watching, will always invite the question "how do I know it was not rigged?" The point is to remove that question before it gets asked.
Method 1: a live draw
The simplest and most transparent option. Open a live stream on Instagram or WhatsApp, or jump on a video call with the group, and draw on the spot with everyone watching.
With the list of sold numbers visible on screen, use a random picker or numbered slips in a bag. Show the result live. The appeal is obvious: nobody doubts what they watched happen in real time. The only thing to watch is to state up front how many valid numbers exist, so it does not look like you adjusted the pool.
Method 2: an official public lottery
Preferred for larger raffles, because the source is external and completely beyond anyone's control. You agree beforehand that the winner will be defined by the result of an official public lottery on a specific date (in Brazil, many raffles use the Loteria Federal for this).
The setup: choose the draw date and the reading rule (the last two or three digits of the main prize, depending on how many numbers your raffle has). Write the conversion rule on the raffle art before selling starts. The result is official, public and impossible to manipulate, which is exactly the point. Defining the rule before selling (not after) is what keeps this bulletproof.
Method 3: the app itself
If your raffle is digital, the draw can come from the same place the numbers live. My Raffle draws only among the numbers that were actually paid, removing the risk of including someone who did not pay or accidentally leaving out someone who did.
To run it: with the raffle closed, trigger the draw in the app and show the screen to the group right after, either as a screenshot or live. Announce the result in the same channel where you sold.
How to announce the result
Whatever method you used, the announcement closes the trust loop:
- Share the drawn number and the winner name together.
- Use the same channel as the sale: the group, the status, Instagram.
- If it was a public lottery, show the official result alongside.
- Hand over the prize and, if possible, post a photo of the delivery.

Before any draw
Keep in mind that a large public raffle may have legal rules depending on where you live. The draw method does not cover the legal side, so check local rules before organizing something big.
A fair draw is what makes people buy from you again. Define the method before selling, write it on the art and follow it exactly.
